The Origin of the Hated Word in Dating, Chaperone!

by Jen on January 22, 2010

Have you ever encountered the word “chaperone”? A chaperone is usually an adult who supervises young and unmarried men or women during social occasions. This is usually your father, your mother, your aunt, or anybody who can pose as a guardian.

Chaperones are there to prevent any inappropriate social or sexual interactions. They are also there to make sure that the dating kids won’t engage in illegal behavior such as drug use or underage drinking. They are the guardians of morality and the number one reason to have a boring date. Well, it is quite awkward to go on a date with a girl or guy you like when mean eyes dart at you like a sharp knife that could bore a hole in your forehead.

Now, below is a video where Marina Orlova explains the origin of the word “chaperone”. Click the video and start a very interesting educational tour.
