So you think you’re going to have a hard time speaking to someone, especially the opposite sex, because you are too shy, or you simply don’t know what to talk about? If you think that to be a good conversationalist you need to know a lot about everything under the sun and you need to have a motor mouth, then it’s time for you to change the way you think.
It’s true that it’s good to know a lot of things under the sun, but it’s not necessary. What most guys also need is to shut up and listen. Here’s how you can be a good conversationalist.
Be Like a Child. What you need to do is to know how to ask a lot of questions. Just don’t be as irritating as a kid asking too many questions, though. This is one way you can dig on what the two of you can talk about. If you ask questions, there’s a great chance you’ll discover if there’s anything common between the two of you. If not, find something about her that might interest you. Like, what she does for a living or why she likes a certain hobby she is involved with. Don’t be afraid to look as if you know nothing, coz probably, you do. It’s better if you want to know something you are not familiar with than to pretend that you know a lot about something you know nothing about. You’d be cool with the former and you’d be a fool with the latter.
Stimulate your date’s mind. Ask your date a challenging question. No, I’m not saying to give your date a puzzle. It can be simple questions like, “If you were the President of the United States, what would you do?” Just make sure you won’t go deep into politics or religion. Nobody is a winner on these subjects.
Talk about things the Seinfeld way. I love watching Seinfeld. Especially when Seinfeld, George, Elaine, or Kramer ask silly, but intriguing, questions. Like who do you think is faster, Superman or The Flash? And they will argue about it until the end of the show. Or questions like how come characters in a romantic movie can talk or kiss the moment they wake up in the morning. Does this mean morning breath doesn’t exist in movies? Asking these kinds of questions will make your date light and fun. And you’ll have a lot of things to talk about coz, for sure, other silly questions would pop up as you go along with the discussion.
Be like seers or fortune tellers. Why not talk about the future. Ask your date how she/he sees him/herself in the future, or what he/she would like to be in the future. People love to talk about themselves, and talking about yourself in the future tense is not as irritating as talking about yourself in the past and present tense. You don’t have to reveal who you were before, or who you are now. You just need to talk about who you want to be, or what you want to be, or simply, what you want to achieve in life. If you think it’s still awkward to talk about it, then talk about what you think the future will be like in general. What do you think will be the new trends? What will the future look like? These topics are neutral and safer than talking about your past relationships or problems.
